A Tribute to the Soldiers and Families

Passion in the night stirs my longing

And drives me to the brink of grief

Whereas I know you are far away

And in danger that no one can scarcely imagine

Yet I send my heart and love to you

Across the miles, the thousands of miles,

To send you hope that one day

This insanity might end and you will

Be coming home to those who love you

So that I can comfort you when the nightmares come

And listen when you are depressed and mortified

At what you once were forced to do

To sit beside you when you feel outside looking in

I am there for you, I am here for you,

I am listening and longing and hoping

That you will come back to me

Safe and sound, body mind and spirit.

By Design

May 26, 2008

By design you and I are a soul within a soul

In love’s pure embrace the angels found us

Yet we wandered, lost, alone in silence

Til the fates would part the doors

And we could see each other smiling

At the instant recognition of each other

That you were you and I was me

And it only took a twinkle for us to see

That we were one heart, one breath, one soul

And now that we have reached the center

Of the path through which we travel

We can reach together for the stars

Of heaven and feel the utter joy

That our unity and harmony embrace

For we know that we shall never

Have to part again for any reason

You are me and I am you and we are one.

The Rose of Love

June 9, 2008

The rose with circles within circles

Its beauty reflects all that love has to offer

As each petal unfolds revealing more

And more of itself just as you and your beloved

Will share more trust more, express more

Over the years that you spend together

And although the rose soon dries and spreads seeds

The scent of love and beauty remains

How do you keep the scent of your love

Growing and building day after day

Creating a warm scent of love and delight

By sharing your dreams and your desires

By giving caring hoping each day

And remembering when love was little more

Than a red bud swirling upward toward heaven.

The End of Times

By Samm J. Bogner

June 12, 2008

We fear the end of times

But we look away from the disasters

Where did our hearts go

What is it our minds know

Will we die from God’s vengeance

Or will we perish from our neighbor’s hand

Can we not learn to live and love

And let our brothers and sisters

Rise with us as we bring them hope

If we all stand behind our masks

And fail to grasp the hand

That reaches out from the swift current

Can we not see how we have failed ourselves

Will we not see in time before the world

Caves in all around us

For who is the real enemy but hatred

And if we carry it in our backpacks

Ready to turn it on anyone

Who disagrees with us

Who is different in thought and deed

We carry the burden of condemnation

Of ourselves and each other.

The Garden of Unity

Your eyes, your smile, your soft, sweet hair

These were the things I noticed at first

Your tenderness and kindness, lighter than air,

These are the things I came to know so soon

You opened my heart, you opened my dreams

You helped me to become a better person

To give my life new meaning it seems

And now I do not have to walk my path alone

You are my day, my night and my heaven

My heart no longer drops like a stone

Because the sunrises, the light rains come

And my garden flourishes as my life grows

I am becoming who I was meant to be

I am changing and living as everyone knows

To the fullest extent of my ability

And I owe it all to you and the love you give me

Your unconditional love I return to be

The best for you as you give your best to me

We are no longer you or I, but we.
